My Kind of Company - Melissa Poulton

poem read by Timothy Arliss OBrien

My Kind of Company
Melissa Poulton

Someone who has been around the block a few times.

At the swimming pool, swimming in the pool lines.

Running down the wing or along by the roadside.

Kicking the football into the goal or knocking it wide.

You climbed the tree, showing that you were not scared to.

You held on to the branches above when they went below you.

The bike rides or the escape to the park, to name but a few.

Being ourselves with no care in the world, just us two.

Catching up with each other whenever we can talk or chat.

Me scaring you when I was trying to get rid of next-door cat.

The mad haircuts or was I really the mad barber from Hell.

I loved playing you up, I hoped that you could never tell.

Don’t get me wrong, we did have our moments, I am sure.

When things got irate and we both tumbled through a door.

I tried knocking you out with a single Cadbury Creme Egg.

It didn’t work out, especially when you broke your leg.

We had some good times especially when we went away.

We went to Amsterdam and we went to Spain in May.

We went for your birthday and stayed longer for mine.

Some of the big holidays that we had together were fine.
