Some days I find poem scraps all around me

Timothy Arliss OBrien

Where did the breeze go?

I swear I’ve been feeling the wind across my face all day,

But now the air is stale and unmoving

Almost trapping us in place

Even though we are briskly walking

Late

For a convening of poetic minds.

The wildflowers forcibly grow

Up out of the cracks of the city sidewalk

That relentlessly props up our feet.

I saw someone dancing alone at a bus stop

On the way to your house today.

I don’t know if he was practicing the foxtrot

For a ballroom competition,

Shaking the rust off

Before salsa night at the taqueria,

Or dreaming of

Spending time with his special someone,

But it was the brightest smile I’ve seen in months.
